Geno SmithPerhaps Rex Ryan is just trying to divert the negativity being heaped on Geno Smith or maybe the Jets’ head coach really loves his new quarterback. But Ryan had nothing but good things to say about the West Virginia product after New York’s first rookie mini-camp practice.

Ryan said Smith wasn’t showing any Whitney Houston-esque qualities during his first showing with the Jets.

“Maybe I don’t know what diva behavior looks like, but he certainly didn’t do it here,” Ryan said. “He’s a football player that you can tell loved the game, very knowledgeable about his system. I never saw that at all.”

Apparently that means Smith wasn’t texting during practice and he didn’t fire any agents on Friday. Smith has been blasted repeatedly by anonymous sources since being selected in the second round by the Jets.
