An Indians-Red Sox matchup in late-May doesn’t really have the curb appeal it once did, but this weekend at Fenway Park should be an emotional one when the Tribe visit the Sox.
Former manager Terry Francona makes his first return as a manger to Fenway since he was employed by the club in 2011. He returned once in 2012 to partake in the club’s 100 year anniversary party and once more that season as a broadcaster.
But he’ll be in the visitor’s dugout this time around.
“I don’t have any anxiety,” Francona told FOX Sports’ John Paul Morosi. “I’m an Indian. I have great memories. I have some tough memories. But you move on. And as time separates it, you know, you remember more of the good. And there was a lot of that.
“There will be people there I care about forever. And that will never change.”
Francona’s breakup with the Sox was highly publicized and is still somewhat of a touchy subject here in Boston. After two World Series titles and many great memories, Francona recognizes that the way things ended was the only thing he’d change.
“The only thing I wouldn’t have scripted was the way it ended,” Francona said of his time in Boston. “Not very many people can. Other than that, there was so much good there, and things have a way of working out. I’m happy as could be.”
