Vikings fans may have some flashbacks when they first see Cordarrelle Patterson step on the field.

The Vikings new toy will be wearing Randy Moss‘ old No. 84 this season — and it was no coincidence. Patterson chose the number because he grew up idolizing the legendary wideout.

“Randy Moss was my role model growing up since I was little,” Patterson told 1500 ESPN. “I wore 84 in high school, and I was purple and gold. So, I looked up to Randy Moss the whole time. I got a chance to practice on the field he practiced on and play in the game he played in.”

You can’t help but notice a resemblance between Patterson and Moss when looking at the rookie in his new jersey. Patterson stands a lanky 6-foot-2, 216 pounds, which is only slightly shorter than Moss’ 6-foot-4 frame.

The No. 84 has been handed out before since Moss left, but only a few times. Wide receivers Aundrae Allison, Michael Jenkins and Moss himself have worn the number since the seven-time Pro Bowler left Minnesota in 2004.

Patterson already has big shoes to fill after taking over for Percy Harvin, who was traded to the Seahawks early in the offseason. Now he’ll be drawing comparisons to one of the best ever, too.
