It seems that every pro athlete is being asked how they would feel about having a gay teammate. And the majority of them have answered that they would fine with it. Count Andrew Luck among the majority.
The 2012 No. 1 overall pick was asked about the issue recently by CNN. Luck said that a person should do whatever makes them happy.
“I hope if someone’s thinking about [coming out], that if they do come out as gay and it makes them happy and it makes their life easier, then I think they should do it,” Luck said. “My first reaction is really good for him.”
The Colts quarterback said he hopes that the player would be treated like any other teammate.
“It’s the 21st century, and I know I would have absolutely no problem with it,” he said. “I hope no one would treat him any differently than any straight player, no special treatment — he’s just another guy.
“When it does come, if it does come, I’d be disappointed if there was a negative reaction.”
That seems to be the general consensus among pro athletes. Adrian Peterson recently came out against gay marriage, but said he “loves” his gay relatives and still treats them the same as anyone else.
