When Jose Jimenez plays soccer again, it won’t be for CS Bella Vista.

The Argentine club kicked Jimenez off the team after he grabbed a stray dog by the neck and threw it into a chain-link fence during a recent game. The incident, which was captured on video, sparked outraged from onlookers at the stadium and viewers around the world.

ESPN reports Bella Vista took swift action Wednesday, cutting ties with Jimenez.

“The Executive Committee of CS Bella Vista [have decided that], by violently throwing a dog that had entered the field of play while the game was in progress, our club cannot protect the human and sporting image of Jose Antonio Jimenez, which has been damaged by his incomprehensible attitude,” a club statement said.

“In accordance with the Committee’s Book of Proceedings, we have cancelled his registration from our roster.”

The referee showed Jimenez a red card for his treatment of the dog, triggering an automatic three-game suspension. Once the furor dies down, Jimenez will have to find a new club, where he’ll presumably serve the rest of his ban.
