Brandon McCarthy is fine, but he had a scare on Monday night at a Phoenix restaurant.
The Diamondbacks pitcher suffered a seizure while out with his wife, Amanda, at Rock Bottom Brewery, according to AZCentral.com. The seizure is related to an incident in September when he was struck in the head with a line drive. McCarthy had to have emergency surgery after the ball caused intracranial bleeding.
McCarthy did not require surgery after his seizure, though that was in question after doctors thought they saw a spot of blood on his brain. McCarthy is currently on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. The seizure should not push back his recovery. He hopes to resume throwing in the next few days.
“I remember someone restraining me and telling me I had a seizure,” McCarthy told AZCentral.com. “I don’t really remember much past that until I was at the hospital.”
McCarthy praised his wife for taking “control of the situation pretty quickly.” He also thanked restaurant employees and patrons for helping out after he slumped over in his booth. He will take seizure medication to hopefully prevent them from occurring in the future.
The righty has not yet addressed the situation on his fantastic Twitter account.
