There were certainly some notable family ties for the Red Sox when it came to this year’s MLB draft.
John Farrell’s youngest son, Luke, was drafted in the sixth round by the Royals on Friday. On Saturday, Carl Yastrzemski’s grandson, Mike, got his name called by Baltimore in the 14th round (429th overall).
This is actually the second time that Mike Yastrzemski has been drafted. He was selected by the Red Sox out of high school back in 2009, but he opted to play college ball at Vanderbilt University.
Yastrzemski will obviously have a difficult time living up to the family name, as his grandfather is considered one of the greatest players in Red Sox history. The 22-year-old outfielder comes with plenty of promise, though.
Yastrzemski, a native of Andover, Mass., hit .322 and had a .413 on-base percentage in 64 games during his senior season at Vanderbilt.
