Athleticism must run in the family.

The Edmonton Oilers selected defenseman Darnell NurseĀ fromĀ Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League with the seventh pick in the 2013 NHL draft on Sunday. Nurse is not the only member of his family who has been afforded the opportunity to play professional sports. His uncle is former Eagles and Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb.

McNabb was vocal in his support of his nephew on Twitter in the days leading up to the draft, and he posted a photo of the two after the selection was official.

McNabb was famously booed when the Eagles selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1999 draft. Eagles fans were hoping their team would draft running back Ricky Williams.

When asked how his draft day compared to his uncle’s back in 1999, Nurse said, “We’re even. Because he went higher than me, but I didn’t get booed at my draft. So we’re even.”
