Ilya Bryzgalov, Tyler SeguinFor all the bizarre things that Ilya Bryzgalov has said over the years, he seemed to take the Flyers’ buyout of his contract about as well as anyone could have expected. The netminder even released a statement through his agent thanking the Philadelphia organization for the “faith” they showed in Bryzgalov when first signing him to the nine-year deal.

However, it seems that while releasing a statement was fine, perhaps Bryzgalov should have advised his agent to not make statements of his own.

On Wednesday, Ritch Winter appeared on Edmonton’s 630 CHED to defend his client from the criticism he’s received for his poor play in net with the Flyers. In fact, Winter went on the offensive, saying “It’s terrible for goaltenders in Philadelphia,” and that “There’s more wrong with Philadelphia’s goaltending than just the goaltending.” Specifically, Winter cited the club’s habit of creating traffic in front of its own net and the team’s goaltending coach’s lack of authority.

Winter also criticized Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, saying the GM used “deception” and initially told Bryzgalov that he would not be bought out.
