Kobe Bryant Hints Toward Playing Past Current Contract to Win Sixth Ring

Kobe BryantNo one has ever doubted Kobe Bryant‘s competitiveness.

The Lakers star is watching the NBA Finals carefully. If the Spurs win, that means Tim Duncan has one more ring than Bryant.

“My goal is to win more than five,” Bryant told Stephan A. Smith on ESPN Radio. “If he does win five, hopefully that pushes our organization upstairs to be even more determined and more driven to make the necessary expenses to make sure we continue the next year and the year after that.”

It’s interesting that Bryant mentioned “the year after that.” Bryant’s contract only runs through the 2013-14 season. He’ll be 35 years old  by the time next season starts and coming off Achilles surgery.

A sixth ring would tie Bryant with Michael Jordan, Bob Cousy, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar and Scottie Pippen for 10th most titles all time. There are 12 players with five rings.
