FOXBORO, Mass. — LeGarrette Blount hasn’t experienced much winning in the NFL, but that’s about to change.
Blount spent the first three seasons of his career in Tampa Bay with a middling Buccaneers team that went a combined 21-27 and failed to make the playoffs in each of those seasons. During that same time frame, the Patriots tallied a 39-9 record, playing in two AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. They look like championship contenders again this season, too, which, for Blount, is a very welcome change.
“Yeah, I’m excited to be here,” Blount said after the Patriots’ organized team activities on Tuesday. “It’s a winning program.”
Blount came to New England in a draft-day trade, finally giving him a chance to have an impact on a winner. He’s taking the opportunity in full stride, quickly adapting to the so-called “Patriot way” and even starting to sound like it, too.
“We just take things a day at a time, and everybody buys into everything that’s going on here,” Blount said, which was eerily reminiscent of a typical Bill Belichick remark.
Beyond the familiar lingo, Blount is also fully immersing himself into the Patriots’ organization. He understands the great expectations the Patriots have as a team, and he’s committed to contributing to that ultimate success.
“You can tell from watching them on TV the expectations they have. You can tell from the way they do things around the building, the expectations they have,” Blount said. “So, like I said, I’m excited to get a part of this and be a part of something like this. Hopefully, I’ll find my way in, so I can fit in wherever I’m supposed to be.”
Blount’s role on offense has yet to be established, and it likely won’t be until training camp. But he at least seems to have the right attitude, and that will be half the battle in making the roster.
