Michael Strahan, Warren Sapp Continue Feud Over Whether ‘Live! With Kelly and Michael’ Host Is Hall of Fame Material

Michael StrahanApparently Warren Sapp doesn’t respect Michael Strahan — or left defensive ends in general. He doesn’t seem to like right tackles much either.

That’s what can be gauged from some recent comments Sapp made about Strahan. The Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive tackle blasted Strahan, who didn’t make the 2013 HOF class, saying former Buccaneer Simeon Rice was far better than the host of Live! With Kelly and Michael.

“Nobody ever talks about Simeon,” Sapp said. “Simeon was a better rusher than Michael Strahan any day of the week and twice on Sunday.”

Sapp made note that Strahan’s career didn’t take off until Strahan moved to the left side of the line, meaning he was going up against right tackles rather than left tackles.

“[Rice] didn’t rush the worst lineman,” Sapp said. “You know the right tackle is the worst of the five. Strahan played right end his first four years. When they were putting the label on him as a bust, they put ‘B-U-S. OK, let’s transition him on the other side and see if he can play in his fourth year.’

“They put him at right end and he couldn’t do it, so they moved him to the weak guy. One-on-one with the [Eagles right tackle] Jon Runyans for eight quarters every year. Sim won’t ever have his name brought up [for the Hall of Fame], and that’s a shame. He’s one of the best pass rushers I’ve ever encountered in my life.”

Sapp’s comments are off base in many ways. First and foremost, right tackles are not the worst of the five offensive linemen. That distinction would typically go to right guards. Second, Strahan was a far better run defender than Simeon Rice ever was.

Sapp is correct in his point that Rice was an underrated defender during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but Strahan had a longer peak and was a better overall defender.

The feud between Sapp and Strahan started in February when the former Buc and Raider called Strahan a “media darling.” Strahan responded on Twitter saying “You never cease to amaze me! Enjoy your moment. You don’t need to take a shot at me to justify yourself to other people.”

Strahan has yet to respond to Sapp’s latest comments.

These uniforms say “Brewers” in Polish. Don’t ask us to pronounce that, though.
