Over the last 24 hours, the prospects for the sequel to Dumb & Dumber just improved dramatically, as Jim Carrey reportedly signed on to the project. The movie maintains a strong cult status among fans of slapstick humor, but it also has a place among Bruins lore, too.

Of course, Bruins legend Cam Neely had a cameo in the film playing Sea Bass, the ornery local who has no respect for a man’s hamburger. Well, the film’s director, Bobby Farrelly, recently spoke to the NHL Network, and not only said that the scene is easily among fans’ favorites, but that he’s rooting for the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final, as well.

“Whenever someone talks about Dumb & Dumber, they always ask about Sea Bass,” Farrelly said. “We didn’t realize it would be such a big character. It’s been a great team to root for over the years, between the Bobby Orrs and the Derek Sandersons and the Cam Neelys. This has been a very exciting NHL season, and the playoffs are unbelievable.”

Farrelly is a Rhode Island native and good friends with Neely. He also attended Game 4 at TD Garden, and took the opportunity to share a story about one Bruin who’s itching to follow in Neely’s footsteps on the silver screen.

“We had a guy come up to us this year,” said Farrelly. “He said, ‘Listen, I heard you’re going to do a sequel to Dumb & Dumber. I want to be son of Seabass.’ That was Milan Lucic.’ I looked at him and thought, ‘You know what? That’s not a bad idea.’ Because he looks a lot like Cam, plays a lot like Cam. I’ve got to convince my brother. We need to figure out a way to make it work.”
