Report: Celtics Will Take Time Hiring Doc Rivers’ Replacement as Coach, Could Take Until Mid-July

Danny AingeAnybody looking for a quick fix to the Celtics’ opening for a head coach to help them move on from the Doc Rivers era will be disappointed. The Celtics are in no rush.

With the NBA Draft just days away and summer league tipping off in a matter of weeks, the Celtics plan to take their time with hiring a new coach. Do not expect Rivers’ replacement to arrive before mid-July, when the Celtics’ summer league wraps up, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.

At least one prime candidate came off the market Monday, when the Nuggets hired Brian Shaw as their coach. The list of experienced and up-and-coming candidates is shrinking every day, with Philadelphia also looking to fill the vacancy left by Doug Collins. The Grizzlies, who parted ways with Lionel Hollins, reportedly plan to promote assistant coach Dave Joerger.
