Doc RiversIt appears the Doc Rivers saga has finally concluded.

It was originally reported Sunday afternoon that the Celtics and Clippers had agreed to a deal that would send Rivers to Los Angeles and a first-round draft pick in 2015 to Boston as compensation. That proposal could not be completed without league approval, though, which has now reportedly been granted.

Sources confirmed to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan on Monday that the NBA has signed off on the deal, leaving the two sides to officially announce it whenever they see fit.

The Celtics will now reportedly release Rivers from the three years and $21 million remaining on his current contract, and the coach will then sign an identical, three-year, $21 million deal to lead the Clippers.

MacMullan also cites a source saying that NBA commissioner David Stern is not expected to change his stance on the Celtics’ desire to trade Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles, which was vetoed as a violation of league rules. Any deal involving Garnett and the Clippers is reportedly “on hold.”
