Patrick Ewing, Quentin Richardson, Derrick StaffordPatrick Ewing is getting back into the coaching game. A year after turning down a D-League head coaching gig because he rightfully found it insulting, Ewing will return to an NBA bench as an assistant coach.

Ewing reached an agreement to be an assistant on new head coach Steve Clifford‘s staff with the Charlotte Bobcats, Yahoo! Sports reports. The move unites Ewing with Michael Jordan, his longtime nemesis as a player, who is the Bobcats’ majority owner. This is Ewing’s third time sharing a bench with Clifford, who was a fellow assistant with Ewing in Orlando and Houston.

Ewing served as an assistant with the Magic and Rockets from 2008-12. He has interviewed for head coaching jobs in Detroit and Charlotte, although he did not coach anywhere last year.
