Yovani Gallardo’s name might be tossed around a lot in advance of the July 31 trade deadline. Many teams would need to clear an extra hurdle to acquire the right-hander, though.
Gallardo can block trades to 10 teams, according to MLBDailyDish.com’s Chris Cotillo. The Red Sox reportedly are among the teams on the pitcher’s no-trade list.
Gallardo reportedly can block trades to the Orioles, Indians, Tigers, Astros, Angels, Yankees, Phillies, Pirates and Blue Jays, in addition to the Red Sox.
This doesn’t rule out the possibility of Gallardo being traded to any of those 10 teams. It just means that he’ll need to waive his no-trade clause for any of those teams to acquire the 27-year-old.
Gallardo, who is owed $11.25 million in 2014 and has a $13 million club option for 2015, is 6-7 with a 4.20 ERA in 17 starts this season. He was named an All-Star in 2010, and he finished seventh in National League Cy Young voting in 2011, when he went 17-10 with a 3.52 ERA.
Gallardo owns a 75-50 record and 3.69 ERA in 168 games (165 starts) over the course of seven big-league seasons with the Brewers.
