Aaron HernandezA vehicle reportedly rented by Aaron Hernandez has been linked to a double homicide committed in Boston’s South End last July.

CNN cites a law enforcement source saying that Boston Police impounded a silver SUV with Rhode Island license plates on Thursday. The vehicle matches the description of the car witnesses reported fleeing the scene of the shooting at the corner of Shawmut Avenue and Herald Street on July 16, 2012.

Police reportedly believe Hernandez was renting the SUV at the time of the murders.

Two men, Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado, both of Dorchester, were killed in the shooting, and a third was injured.

Police reportedly began investigating Hernandez in connection to the 2012 killings after the former Patriots tight end was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd on Wednesday, though the CNN source reportedly gave no indication as to whether the two crimes are related.

Hernandez was denied bail Thursday during a hearing at Fall River Superior Court. He is charged with first-degree murder and five gun-related counts in the shooting death of the 27-year-old Lloyd.
