We now know why T.J. Moe was waived-injured by the Patriots.
The undrafted rookie suffered a season-ending torn Achilles, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Moe received the most guaranteed money by a Patriots rookie free agent with an $8,000 signing bonus and a guaranteed base salary of $22,000.
If Moe clears waivers, the Patriots will likely put the slot receiver on injured reserve. A player has to pass through waivers before being put on injured reserve. It’s doubtful that a team would claim Moe, since it would have to stash him on its roster until training camp.
The Patriots stashed Jake Ballard last season after the Giants waived-injured the veteran tight end last June. Teams can only carry 90 players through OTAs, mini-camp and training camp.
