ryanRex Ryan is coming off his worst season as head coach of the Jets, but if you thought that would stop him from speaking his mind and pumping his chest, think again.

In fact, the season — one in which the Jets went 6-10 and subsequently cleaned house — may have been fuel to the fire.

“I’m a hell of a lot better football coach than I’m given credit for,” Ryan told Newsday.

Times have quickly changed for Ryan. He led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in his first two seasons as head coach, but the pressure is now greater than ever before as he heads into his fifth year after back-to-back seasons of failing to make the playoffs.

But no matter how far the Jets have fallen, or how close Ryan may have been to getting fired after last season, he continues to view himself in the highest regard.

“I don’t need the credit,” he said. “But I can tell you one thing, when it’s said and done, they’ll look back and say, ‘Oh man, this dude can coach his butt off.’ And you know what? It’s true. And I’ll let the people that know best talk on my behalf about the kind of coach I am.

“I don’t have to brag, even though statistically, I can brag about anything I’ve ever done defensively.”

At least it’s not a Super Bowl guarantee.
