Ryan Dempster Becomes Fifth Active Player to Record 2,000 Career Strikeouts

Dempster recorded his 2,000th career strikeout in the top of the sixth inning. Alberto Callaspo was Dempster’s 2,000th victim.

Dempster now has 83 strikeouts on the season. His single-season high came in 2000 with the Marlins when the 16-year veteran recorded 209 strikeouts. He’s on pace for 210 this year.

Only Andy Pettitte (2,368), CC Sabathia (2,294), Roy Halladay (2,201) and A.J. Burnett (2,070) have more Ks among active players. Dempster passed Andy Benes on the career list on Sunday. He now ranks 68th all-time.
