As if the Bruins and TD Garden attendees needed help getting fired upĀ on Wednesday night, a local hero was called in to spark some emotion prior to Game 3.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officer Richard Donohue, who was injured in a shootout with the suspected Boston Marathon bombers, was the game’s official fan banner captain. He fired up the crowd while waving aĀ “Boston Strong” flag, just as other heroes such as Jeffrey Bauman and Carlos Arrendondo did before previous games.

“After being in hospitals for the better part of almost two months now, just being able to get outside, have some fun, be at a Bruins playoff game, it’s awesome,” he said. “I’m excited, I’m happy to be out, even if it’s only for one night.”
