Vladimir PutinVladimir Putin says he doesn’t remember meeting Robert Kraft or ever seeing his Super Bowl ring, but the Russian President would be more than happy to get the Patriots owner a new one.

Putin gave a speech at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum on Friday, and afterward answered questions including one about Kraft and the never ending ring debate. He even said that he’d be willing to have a new one made for Kraft and the Patriots, according to Interfax.ru.

“You know, I don’t remember either Mr. Kraft, or the ring. But if it is such a big treasure for Mr. Kraft and the team — I remember some souvenirs were being presented — I have a suggestion,” Putin said. “I will ask a jewelry firm to make a really good and big thing, so everyone will see it is a luxury piece, made of quality metal and with a stone, so this piece will be passed from generation to generation in the team whose interests are represented by Mr. Kraft.”

This whole “Ringgate scandal” began back in 2005, when Kraft supposedly gifted the ring to Putin during a meet-and-greet between the two. But, last weekend, Kraft changed his tune, saying that Putin had, in fact, stole the ring from him. Putin’s vehemently denied the allegation, claiming it was definitely a gift, which then, of course, was followed by Kraft releasing a statement saying he was just having some fun with the story.

This story just continues to develop new, weird and hilarious layers, but trying to make heads or tails of who is telling the truth here might be a lost cause.
