Doc RiversShould he stay, or should he go?

That has been the question hounding Celtics fans for weeks now, as the Doc Rivers saga continues to drag on.

The situation regarding Rivers’ proposed trade to the Clippers seems to take on a new shape each hour, with reports on the deal fluctuating between all but certain and all but dead.

If Rivers’ proposed departure to the West Coast does fall through, he can either remain in Boston or refrain from coaching entirely, likely to return to the broadcasting booth. But after all that has transpired this offseason, would Celtics fans want him back?

Rivers clearly does not want to be a part of a rebuilding effort — which the Celtics may need to undergo if they are to return to championship form — but he remains one of the top coaches in the NBA, and any replacement would likely be a downgrade.

There are many factors to consider in this case, including how the team would respond to being coached by a man who seemed so sure to leave town. If you were Danny Ainge, what would you do?
