For 45 minutes, Saturday’s MLS game between the New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo looked like it was going to be a dud. Adam Moffat changed everything five minutes into the second half.
The Dynamo midfielder scored an MLS Goal of the Year candidate, beating Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth with a powerfully hit volley from 25 yards out.
Revs striker Chad Barrett cleared a Dyanmo corner kick from the area, but it fell kindly to Moffat. The Scotsman showed perfect technique, as he kept the shot on target. Shuttleworth was partially screened, so he appeared to react too late to repel Moffat’s effort.
Moffat’s goal gave Houston a 1-0 lead, which the visitors would surrender shortly thereafter. But the 27-year-old struck again in the 79th minute, albeit in less spectacular fashion. He took another shot from distance, and it hit the post, ricocheted into Shuttleworth’s back and went into the goal.
The Dynamo left Gillette Stadium with all three points thanks to Moffat’s two strikes.
