The Alex Rodriguez saga continues.
A-Rod was slated to start in his final rehab game with the Class AAA Tampa Yankees on Sunday, but he was scratched from the lineup because of a sore left quadriceps.
The Yankees slugger traveled to New York on Sunday to undergo an MRI, which revealed a Grade 1 strain of his left quad. A-Rod was supposed to make his season debut for the Yankees on Monday to kick off a four-game series against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Instead, Rodriguez will return to Tampa for follow-up treatment.
Rodriguez has not played in a single game for the Yankees this season as he has battled a myriad of injuries. Even if he were feeling 100 percent, though, his return to the big show could be brief. A-Rod is one of dozens of MLB players suspected of connections with Miami-based Biogenises Clinic, and commissioner Bud Selig is expected to come down hard with suspensions to those players. The suspension could keep Rodriguez off the diamond for nearly an entire season’s worth of games.
