FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots first-year defensive lineman Armond Armstead recently underwent surgery, which has kept him from joining the team during training camp.
The procedure was done to treat an infection of some kind. Armstead is recovering, but no timetable has been set for his return just yet.
The Patriots released a statement on Armstead’s surgery on Monday night.
“Armond Armstead had surgery to treat an infection,” the release said. “Armond is in good condition and is expected to make a full recovery. A timetable has not been set for his return to football.”
Armstead was signed by the Patriots on Jan. 22 after one season with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He was projected as a high-round pick coming out of USC, but he was forced to miss his senior season due to a heart condition that the Trojans medical staff deemed serious.
The Patriots placed Armstead on the non-football illness list just before training camp. Bill Belichick said before practice on Sunday that Armstead’s current illness isn’t related to the heart condition.
