Ben Smith got his day with Lord Stanley’s Cup on Tuesday and he brought it back to where it all began for the right winger.

A member of the 2013 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, Smith spent most of the season playing with the Hawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford Ice Hogs, but the BC graduate got the opportunity to play in Game 3 of the Finals.

“I found out 15 minutes before the game, we were always told to stay ready,” Smith said. “I contributed a little bit which makes it better.”

Smith began his day with the Cup in his hometown of Avon, Conn., posing for pictures and signing autographs. At his former high school, Westminster School, fans were able to purchase autographed photos with the proceeds benefiting One Fund Boston and Westminster’s Crossroads Learning Program.

The 25-year-old then stopped by Boston College — where he played four seasons and won two national championships — to share the historic trophy with head coach, Jerry York.
