Brazilian Soccer Player Maurides Injures Himself Doing Backflip to Celebrate First Career Goal (Video)

It’s taken for granted that professional athletes will make mistakes during their rookie year, but Maurides couldn’t have seen this one coming. The Brazilian soccer player injured himself while celebrating his first career goal Wednesday night.

His 88th-minute goal gave Internacional an insurmountable 3-1 lead in its Brazilian Cup third-round meeting with America Mineiro.

The 19-year-old did a cartwheel then a backflip to commemorate the important goal, but he landed awkwardly and sprained his knee. He was carried off the field on a stretcher and missed the final minutes of the game.

Doctors don’t expect the injury to keep Maurides out of action for too long, but the damage is already done.
