Denver Broncos director of player personnel Matt Russell was arrested Saturday eveningĀ for driving under the influence after he crashed his Toyota Tundra into a police car, according to CBS4 Denver.

Russell, who posted $1,000 bond after his arrest, was reportedly charged withĀ driving under the influence, careless driving resulting in injury, having an open container of alcohol in his car, and failure to display proof of insurance.

The Broncos have not commented on whether or not the arrest will impact Russell’s job status, but they did condemn his actions in a sternly worded statement released Monday.

ā€œOur organization is extremely disappointed and concerned with the incident involving Matt Russell,” the team’s statement read. “We immediately expressed our disappointment to Matt, and he is fully aware of the seriousness of this situation. This type of behavior is unacceptable and very troubling. We expect better from all employees, particularly those in leadership positions. These allegations completely contradict the values and beliefs of the Broncos regarding social responsibility.

ā€œWe are continuing to gather information and will handle this matter appropriately and in accordance with all NFL policies.ā€

Russell also released a statement on the team’s website in which he apologized for what he called an “inexcusable mistake.”

ā€œI deeply regret the poor judgment I demonstrated that resulted in my arrest over the weekend,” he said.” I apologize to the Denver Broncos, our fans and the National Football League for this inexcusable mistake. Iā€™m ashamed that I represented this region and the Broncos organization in the manner that I did. I take complete responsibility for my actions and will be fully accountable. Going forward, I will take steps to ensure this never happens again.ā€

A former linebacker at the University of Colorado, Russell spent time as a scout for the Patriots and Eagles after his brief NFL career ended in 1999. He joined the Broncos as the team’s college scouting director in 2009 before being promoted to his current position in Jan. 2012.
