Chipper Jones Blasts Angel Hernandez on Twitter, Urges Fans to Boycott Umpire’s Games

Chipper Jones has been around the block a few times, so when he talks, people usually listen.

And if people are listening, games that Major League Baseball umpire Angel Hernandez calls may soon have low ratings.

Jones, who retired in October after spending his entire 19-year career with the Braves, was watching his former team play the Phillies on Friday night, and he was none too pleased with how the game was being called. The Braves lost, 5-4, but not before Jones took to Twitter to lash out at Hernandez, the game’s home plate umpire.

Hernandez, who has caught his fair share of controversy over his 22-year career — including after a horrendously blown home run call earlier this season — was back at it again Friday night. Presumably, the umpire’s decision in the second inning to eject both Braves catcher Gerald Laird and manager Fredi Gonzalez for arguing balls and strikes caught a nerve with Jones, who claimed he would never watch a game Hernandez calls again and then encouraged fans to do the same.
