Chris Wondolowski has trouble scoring goals at the international level. But Chris Wondowlowski doesn’t have that problem anymore.
On Monday, Wondolowski scored a first-half hat-trick for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team in its 6-1 win over Belize. He filled up the nets while wearing a jersey that had his name misspelled on the back. The U.S. striker’s name was spelled: W-o-n-d-o-w-l-o-w-s-k-i.
Onlookers noticed the mistake, and Wondolowski changed into a jersey on which his name was properly spelled at halftime. He didn’t score in the second half, by the way.
Jesse Bignami, the person in charge of producing the U.S. national team’s jerseys, took the blame for sneaking an extra W into Wondolowski’s last name.

Maybe Bignami should take the credit. Wondolowski’s goals powered the U.S., as it started its 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign on a winning note.
Wondowlowski is a prolific goal scorer for his club, the San Jose Earthquakes, but he failed to carry that form into international play. Perhaps that started to change on Friday when he scored his first international goal (in a 6-0 win over Guatemala).
It took Wondolowski 10 games to score for the U.S. national team. Wondowlowski scored a hat-trick in less than 45 minutes.
