Coco Crisp looked like he had stepped out of a time machine when he let his hair loose the last few seasons. The Oakland Athletics center fielder channeled his inner Oscar Gamble with an epic afro for the ages.
Sadly, though, all good things must come to an end. Crisp shaved his magnificent ‘fro prior to Tuesday’s game against the Cubs, and he had to be refitted for caps and batting helmets because his head sized had changed so much.
Maybe Crisp’s homage to Gamble had run its course, or maybe he just got sick of his batting helmet toppling off of his head every time he took a step.
Either way, it’s the end of an era in which Crisp successfully brought back the afro — and for that, Mr. Crisp, we salute you. Check out a before and after of Crisp’s ‘do in the photos below.
