Deuce, a one-year-old border collie who runs the bases after every victory at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, became spooked after post-game fireworks on Saturday night, ran off from his owner and has yet to be found.

Deuce and his brother, Ace —  who also does the trot around the bases — were in the stadium’s parking lot when the fireworks went off. Owner and trainer, Gene Lonsway only had time to keep a hold of Ace.

“I was putting the dogs in the van, and at just the wrong moment the fireworks began,” Lonsway said. “Deuce took off at 100 miles an hour.”

Deuce was not on a leash and he was not wearing a collar, but the border collie was still in uniform from the game that consists of a bright orange Durham Bulls bandana around his neck.

This is the dog’s first season performing victory laps as the duo made their debut May 31. Lonsway says he hopes Deuce is located before the Bulls take on Pawtucket at their next home game Thursday.
