The Red Sox have looked good all season. They have the best record in the American League East (and the American League) as well as the most wins in all of Major League Baseball at the All-Star break. Perhaps it’s time to stop treading carefully when using “Red Sox” and “World Series” in the same sentence and just go for it.

Pedroia voiced the MLB party line about the importance of the All-Star Game on Monday, noting that the winning league gets home field advantage in the World Series. But this time, the oft-used argument rings pretty true, because — as Pedroia pointed out — home field advantage has serious implications for the Red Sox, who could actually be World Series-bound just one season after tasting rock bottom.
“Just look at our team,” Pedroia said, according to ESPN. “If we’re in the World Series [and the American League loses Tuesday], we play another game in the National League park. We lose our best hitter. We lose David Ortiz for that day — or he has to play first base, which he hasn’t done all year. The game means a lot.”
The Red Sox are just 11 games away from tying the amount of wins they totaled last year, when they went 69-93. Next stop: World Series?
