Homer Bailey’s Equipment, Including Two Empty Red Bull Cans, Authenticated After No-Hitter

No-hitters aren’t incredibly rare in Major League Baseball, but when the pitching feat is accomplished, it’s still a pretty big deal. That was the case Tuesday night in Cincinnati where the league and the Reds weren’t going to miss any sort of opportunity to authenticate Homer Bailey‘s no-no.

The Reds pitcher no-hit the San Francisco Giants — his second no-hitter in the last nine months — and MLB and the Reds went to work after the game. According to The Cincinnati Enquirer (via Yahoo! Sports’ Big League Stew blog), a literal laundry list of items was taken from Bailey, his catcher Ryan Hanigan and all over Great American Ballpark.

According to the report, just about all of Bailey’s uniform was taken away for authentication, as was just about all of Hanigan’s equipment. One of Bailey’s sweat towels was authenticated, as were home plate, all three bases and the pitching rubber.

Interestingly, that long list of memorabilia didn’t end there. Reds Authentics, an official Twitter account “for Reds authentics,” says two empty Red Bull cans from Bailey were also authenticated.
