Johnny ManzielJohnny Manziel finally addressed his early departure from the Manning Passing Academy on Wednesday at the SEC Media day, and he chalked the entire incident up to oversleeping.

Manziel, who was supposed to take part in Peyton and Eli Manning‘s annual passing camp last week, left the camp early amid speculation that he was out late partying the night before. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner accepted responsibility in the situation Wednesday during an interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter, admitting that he erred in judgement when he “overslept” and showed up late to the morning drills.

“The main reason for me going home, it’s been a busy summer for me. Just overslept,” Manziel said. “It wasn’t anything to the night prior. It was simply phone died. Overslept.”

When asked if he had been out late partying or drinking the night before he overslept, Johnny Football avoided the question saying “I’m not going into details.” Although, he did offer at least a slight clarification on the incident, explaining that he was “”absolutely not” hungover on that Saturday morning.

“I’m 20 years old,” Manziel said. “I’m still a sophomore in college. Still gonna do things that everybody in college does.”

In fact, Manziel even compared himself to everybody’s (least?) favorite pop singer and bandwagon Miami Heat fan.

“I guess I feel like Justin Bieber or something.”

Manziel is under a lot of pressure, especially after becoming the first freshman in NCAA history to win the Heisman last season, and some slipups are understandable. However, Texas A&M would probably prefer Manziel to put his sole focus on the football field.
