Martin Brodeur Announces Selection of Son Anthony Brodeur With Devils’ Seventh-Round Draft Pick (Video)

On Sunday, the New Jersey Devils made waves when they acquired netminder Cory Schneider from Vancouver, igniting an instant goaltending controversy in Newark. With future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur and backup Johan Hedberg already in place, something needs to give.

When Brodeur took the mic to announce the Devils’ seventh-round draft selection Sunday, he was set to select yet another goalie. However, despite the crowded situation in goal, the 41-year-old probably isn’t too perturbed by the team’s pick.

The Devils took Anthony Brodeur, Martin’s son, with the 208th overall pick. Like his father, Anthony is a goaltender, out of Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school in Minnesota. The 18-year-old is set to play for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL next season.
