National Team Coach ‘Chepo’ de la Torre Pelted With Beer by Mexican Soccer Fans at Rose Bowl (Video)

Mexican soccer fans are a demanding lot — no matter where they are or what the circumstances are.

Some are fed up with how Mexico’s men’s national soccer team has been performing lately, so they’ve decided to share their feelings and beer with head coach Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre.

On Sunday, Mexico fans in Southern California were upset following their team’s 2-1 loss to Panama in its opening game of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. They pelted de la Torre with plastic cups and bottles of beer as he was leaving the field at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The embattled de la Torre did not react to the beers or cries of “Fuera Chepo!” (“Chepo out!”). He just kept his head down and walked straight into the tunnel.

Mexico has failed to impress so far in the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifying, winning just one of its six games so far and drawing the other five. “El Tri” didn’t look any better in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, exiting the tournament after the group stage.

Although Mexico is using a “B” team in the Gold Cup, the expectations of its fans remain sky high. Despite the loss to Panama, Mexico is still in the regional championship tournament, and it is likely that “El Tri” will factor in the final reckoning. However, it remains to be seen whether or not de la Torre will still be in charge when the final takes place on July 28.
