The Padres made a number of moves Friday, and one included a name very familiar to Red Sox fans.
The Padres announced that infielder Pedro Ciriaco has been designated for assignment. Ciriaco, of course, was designated for assignment by Boston earlier this season and subsequently traded to San Diego.
Ciriaco appeared in 23 games with the Padres after playing in 28 games with the Red Sox. Ciriaco hit .238 (15-for-63) with a home run and four RBIs for San Diego. The 27-year-old is hitting .228 (26-for-114) with two home runs and eight RBIs overall this season.
The Padres also announced Friday that Yonder Alonso and Jedd Gyorko have been activated from the disabled list, and pitcher Sean O’Sullivan has been called up from Triple-A Tucson. Miles Mikolas was optioned to Triple-A, and Kyle Blanks was placed on the disabled list with Achilles tendinitis.
The Padres have 10 days to assign Ciriaco to the minors, trade him or release him.
