Jared Goedert, Brock HoltThose hoping the Jake PeavyJose Iglesias deal would be cause for a Xander Bogaerts sighting need to hold onto their hats a little bit longer.

The Red Sox plan to call up infielder Brock Holt to take Iglesias’ spot on the 25-man roster Wednesday, not Bogaerts, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports. While Bogaerts — or Will Middlebrooks, who has regained his form in the minor leagues — could still come up and take over third base for the rest of the season, Holt will be the man for the moment.

Holt came to Boston in last offseason’s trade with the Pirates for Joel Hanrahan and has appeared in 10 games, batting .290 with eight RBIs.

Bogaerts, a prospect expected to one day hold down an infield spot for Boston, is hitting .273 in Pawtucket this season.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said on a conference call just past midnight Wednesday morning that the Red Sox will likely look to take care of their third base needs from within.

Bogaerts and Middlebrooks are also in the lineup for today’s 12:05 p.m. PawSox game.
