Dustin Pedroia is the face of the Red Sox, and he’s going to continue to hold that role for a very long time.
The Boston second baseman has signed a seven-year, $100 million contract extension with the club, according to multiple reports. WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford was the first to report the news, and that was later confirmed by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Pedroia will reportedly make $100 million over the course of the contract or roughly $14.3 million per season.
Pedroia signed a six-year contract following the 2008 season, a year he won the American League MVP, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. That deal was supposed to have a team option for the 2015, but according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the first year of the new contract will now replace that option year. That means Pedroia is signed with the Red Sox through the 2021 season.
