Patriots Sign Defensive Tackle Anthony White, Not John Drew

The Patriots have signed a new defensive tackle, but it isn’t John Drew, after all.

The team reportedly had an agreement in place with Drew on Monday, but signed fellow undrafted rookie defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White instead.

White, 6-foot-2, 330 pounds, played three seasons at Michigan State after being forced to play his freshman season in junior college. White played primarily as a reserve with the Spartans, but his wide frame and strength consistently gave opposing offensive lineman fits making him a valuable option up front.

Drew, who reportedly had a contract offer from the Patriots earlier in the day, isn’t being signed at this time for unknown reasons. He is expected to work out for other teams in hopes of catching on somewhere, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

Drew, from North Carolina Central University, was kicked out of Duke for his involvement in firing a gun on campus and plead guilty to possessing a firearm on educational property and carrying a concealed weapon in 2010.
