kevin-ware-netIf you thought Kevin Ware couldn’t possibly return in time for the start of next season, think again.

The injured Louisville guard, who gruesomely broke his leg during his team’s NCAA regional final victory on March 31, could return to the court as early as October, coach Rick Pitino said Tuesday.

“He’s just riding the bike and you can almost see from the X-rays the bone healing,” Pitino said. “I’d say, in another month he’ll be healed and then he’ll start working out a little bit.”

Ware seems to be on the road to a full recovery since his injury in March. In early June — barely two months after the injury — the guard was seen out of his cast and taking jump shots.

If and when he returns, Ware — who will be a junior in the fall — figures to be a key member of a Cardinals team that will be defending its national championship. He averaged 4.5 points in 16.6 minutes per game off the bench in the regular season last year and was considered one of the team’s top defenders.
