Goalkeepers are the only soccer players who can legally use their hands, which makes it hard to understand why Swedish goalkeeper Peter Abrahamsson was dismissed from a recent game … that is, until you see the video.
Abrahamsson was the starting goalkeeper for Swedish club Orgryte in its second division game against Hammarby, but he didn’t stay on the field for long. He was sent off 44 seconds into the contest after he left his penalty area and inexplicably used his hands — a two-handed punch to be exact.
He must have forgotten where he was on the field, because he punched the ball clear with expert technique. Unfortunately, he was outside of the 18-yard box, intentionally used his hands and denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The referee had no choice but to show him a red card.
Abrahamsson-less Orgryte played the final 89-plus minutes with 10 men and lost the game 3-0.
