Thomas Aiken had a little bit of trouble with the 18th hole closing out his second round at the British Open.

Actually, the 30-year-old South African has had trouble all week at Muirfield, finishing that second round at 9-over for the tournament, well above the projected cut line. However, if Aiken wasn’t going to stick around for the weekend, at least he did something memorable before he left Scotland.

On the 18th hole, Aiken illustrated the hazards of links-style golf, as his ball ended up staying just outside a greenside bunker. Given no stance to take a clear putt from, Aiken entered the bunker to take his shot, with the ball well above his feet, and fashioned a croquet-like swing that actually did him pretty well, considering the lie.

Unfortunately, Aiken missed his return putt and finished with a double-bogey on the par-4 hole. Check out the bizarre moment in the animated GIF below.
