Derrik GibsonThis past week was a mixed bag for the Red Sox farm system.

First, the good news: The Sox had three representatives in the Futures All-Star game, and two of them performed very well. The first top performer was PawSox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who played for the World team. He went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Portland Sea Dogs third baseman Garin Cecchini also played well. He went 1-for-2 with an RBI double off of the bench for the U.S. team.

Things didn’t go as well for Sea Dogs pitcher Anthony Ranaudo, though. He only lasted 2/3 of an inning for the U.S. team and gave up two runs.

Things also didn’t go well for the Sox’ top two minor league affiliates. The PawSox and Portland each only picked up one win over the past week.

Despite the struggles, each minor league team did have a bright spot. Alex Hassan, Derrik Gordon, Stefan Welch, Aneury Tavarez and Kevin Mager all managed to put forth solid weeks at the plate.
