Albert PujolsThe Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are 15 1/2 games out of first place, and they were dealt another blow Monday night.

The team announced that first baseman Albert Pujos will be out for the rest of the season because of a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. Pujols was initially placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 28 after the injury, which had been nagging him all season, became unbearable.

The slugger had transitioned to a designated hitter role this season when his foot started to bother him, and Pujols said he planned to return when the partially torn plantar fascia healed.

Pujols hit .258 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs this season. This is the first time the three-time National League MVP finished with fewer than 30 homers in his 13-season major league career.
