Alex Rodriguez said after Sunday night’s 9-6 Yankees win that the game has a way of policing itself, and that his answer to Ryan Dempster‘s second-inning beanball was his sixth-inning home run.

But Rodriguez, who espoused to letting his bat do the talking, was not above some shenanigans of his own.

After getting some retribution against Dempster with his long blast to center field in the sixth inning, Rodriguez could be seen yelling as he rounded the bases. Then, when he got to home plate, he went one step further. Rather than keeping the feud between himself and Dempster — or anyone else who has piled on Rodriguez during his recent tumultuous weeks — he pulled the Red Sox’ biggest name, David Ortiz, into the fray.

When Rodriguez crossed home plate, he clapped his hands and pointed toward the heavens, replicating Big Papi’s famous post-home run salute.

While Rodriguez and Ortiz are the biggest names on their respective teams, Ortiz hasn’t stuck his nose into the controversy surrounding Rodriguez. And, ironically, Ortiz was one of three Red Sox players who Rodriguez named specifically Friday when he said he wanted to iron things out and explain his side of the story to other members of MLB’s player union.

That improbable conversation could be even harder to get after Rodriguez’s choice of celebration Sunday night.
