With the Bills suddenly hurting at the quarterback position, Buffalo added some depth Sunday.
The team announced that they have signed Matt Leinart, just a day after reports surfaced that they were planning on working out the former first-round pick.
The Bills also acquired Thaddeus Lewis from the Lions in a trade that sent linebacker Chris White to Detroit. Lewis spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, and started the final game of the 2012 campaign against Pittsburgh, completing 22 of 32 passes for 204 yards.
With EJ Manuel recovering from a knee procedure and Kevin Kolb sidelined with concussion-like symptoms after taking a hit in Saturday’s preseason game against the Redskins, the Bills were left with only Jeff Tuel on the depth chart — an undrafted rookie free agent.
Leinart was in high demand the past two days as the Jets were reportedly also interested in bringing the veteran in for a visit after losing Matt Sanchez indefinitely to a shoulder injury.
